Speech, Language & Learning Support for Homeschool Families

Individualized support for your child's learning

One of the wonderful things about homeschooling and virtual learning is the opportunity to meet children where they are, adapting instruction to their individual strengths, needs, and interests. Sometimes, however, children need additional support developing the underlying communication and language skills that help them learn, connect, and thrive.

At Stewart SLP, we partner with families to help children strengthen speech, language, literacy-related skills, and executive functioning through individualized, evidence-based intervention.

Whether your child is learning to pronounce speech sounds, struggling to understand what they hear or read, having difficulty expressing their ideas in words or writing, or learning to organize and manage increasingly complex responsibilities, we're here to help.

Located in Huntington Woods, Michigan, Stewart SLP welcomes homeschool and virtual-learning families from Royal Oak, Berkley, Ferndale, Oak Park, and surrounding Oakland County communities.

How We Support Homeschool Learners

  • Speech Sound Development: Helping children produce speech sounds clearly and confidently, progressing from structured practice to natural, everyday communication.

  • Language Comprehension & Expression: Building skills for understanding directions, answering questions, developing vocabulary, explaining ideas, retelling stories, and communicating increasingly complex thoughts.

  • Reading Comprehension & Written Language: Supporting the language foundations of literacy, including phonemic/phonological awareness, early word learning, structured word inquiry, understanding stories and informational text, organizing ideas, constructing sentences, developing narratives, and expressing thoughts clearly in writing.

  • Executive Functioning: Helping children develop practical strategies for planning, organization, task initiation, working memory, self-monitoring, and flexible thinking. These skills support independence in both academic work and everyday life.

  • Social Communication: Supporting children in developing meaningful communication skills for friendships, cooperative activities, conversations, problem-solving, and navigating misunderstandings.

A Collaborative Approach to Homeschooling

We recognize that every homeschool family approaches education differently. Our goal is not to replace your curriculum or dictate how your child should learn.

Instead, we work collaboratively with families to identify communication-related challenges, develop individualized goals, and provide practical strategies that can be incorporated into everyday learning and family routines. We believe therapy should be engaging, meaningful, and responsive to each child's interests and learning style. Our service options include direct therapy for children and parent consultations that can help enrich your home education plan.

Daytime appointments available! We currently have convenient openings on Mondays and Wednesdays for homeschool and virtual-learning families.
